A year to the day after I got back to the US I received an email from Kathmandu saying, “Laljahri gave birth yesterday to a healthy baby girl. Now everyone here thinks you are a god!” Oddly it was from the man who had accused me of wanting to feel important! Anyway, I did feel a tiny bit like a god, a very humble one, and I was very happy for Laljahri, her husband, and her baby daughter who has a great mother, a born leader, and a strong, courageous, and brilliant Nepali woman.
